Weekend Watch 03/14/2014

Welcome back to the weekend watch. It’s been awhile but let’s jump into it.

All Weekend Conference Tournaments

I will be watching lots of college basketball this weekend and will highlight a few of the championship games below, but the point is, even though I’m only going to highlight the Championship Games of the tournaments, I will be watching more rounds then just that.

Friday

8 PM EST: Nashville Predators vs Chicago Blackhawks (Comcast Sports Net)

This game shouldn’t be much of a game as the Blackhawks are 2nd in their division, 3rd in the conference while the Predators are last in the conference and 3rd to last in the conference. Saying all that, Nashville always gives the Blackhawks trouble, I would keep an eye on this game because it might be closer than it should be.

Who I want to win: Chicago Blackhawks

Who I think will win: Chicago Blackhawks

Saturday

NCAA Conference Championship games

Sunday

Of all sports days this weekend, Sunday looks the best.

1 PM EST: NASCAR Food City 500 @ Bristol Motor Speedway (FOX)

I know you guys are thinking I’m still drunk on NASCAR after my trip to Daytona for the 500. While that might be the case, Bristol is one of the better races of the year that I used to watch before I started going to Daytona. It’s a .5 mile track with 43 Cars on it. Even though it’s not as fun since the track has been repaved, there is always a lot of action, passing and wrecking. If you are nursing a St Patrick’s Day celebration hangover and want to watch something other than College Basketball, try and catch the last 30 laps of this race, I think you will enjoy.

Who I want to win: Tony Stewart

Who I think will win: Kyle Busch

NCAA Basketball Selection Show (CBS)

QUEUE THE MUSIC

Now that you are as jacked up as I am, this is the best non-sport sports event of the year outside the NFL Draft. Who’s in, who’s out, who are you going to pick for your brackets, just a great show.

Who I want to win: Indiana, ok they need a miracle to get in but whatever

Who I think will win: It’s too early still, but screw it I’ll say Kansas

7:30 PM EST: Detroit Red Wings vs Chicago Blackhawks (NBC)

Now that Detroit and Chicago are in different divisions and missing out on more rivalry games we should cherish the ones we get. Both teams are playing for something as Chicago is trying to catch St Louis (I don’t think they will) for the top seed in the division while Detroit is trying to make the playoffs as a number 8 seed. This was a fantastic series in last years playoffs, well at least for Blackhawks fans, and I’m looking forward to this one as well. I will leave Jeremy Piven to have the last words on this game here.

Weekend Watch (11/13/09)

This should be a good weekend for football with games Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Throw in a little Hockey, Basketball and NASCAR (WHAT!) and it should be for a good weekend.

West Virginia at #5Cincinnati 8 PM ET ESPN2

The state of Ohio has two exciting games in two days. The first one is West Virginia playing at Cincinnati. Cincinnati is still playing without Pike (who is expected to return next week vs Illinois) but that hasn’t slowed down the offense. The defense let up around 50 last week against a better then it’s record UConn team. The D will need to play better if Cincy wants to win. Slowing down Noel Devine will be no easy task though. If Cincinnati wins they will remain the next in for the title game behind Florida, ‘Bama and Texas.

Who I want to win: Cincinnati

Who I think will win: Cincinnati

LA Lakers at Denver Nuggets: 10:30 ET ESPN

A rematch of last years Western Confrence Finals. Carmelo has been playing well this year, good enough that Scoop Jackson thinks he should be in the discussion with Kobe, Lebron and Wade. Well tonight is his night to prove it.

Who I want to win: Nuggets

Who I think will win: Lakers

Saturday

College Gameday 10 AM ET ESPN

College Gameday will be in Fort Worth Texas for the Utah vs TCU game. I hope they discuss the absurd line for this game; Utah -20 that seems scary high for a game between two top 16 teams. I don’t think Gameday has ever been to Forth Worth so it should be a fun day for all.

Who I want Corso to pick: TCU

Who I think Corso will pick: Utah

Northwestern vs Illinois Noon ET ESPN or ESPN2 or ESPN Classic

Honestly this game would not normally make the watch, but the A.C.S.S. report team might be live on the scene. Northwestern needs to win another game to ensure they are invited to a bowl, while Illinois needs to keep winning to hang on to their outside chance of making a bowl. Illinois lost something like 17 straight games to FBS teams and now have 2 in the past 2 weeks. Crazy. O, BRING BACK THE SWEEET SUIX TOMAHAWK, this will be the first time in 64 meetings the trophy won’t be played for. The trophy was retired out of respect for the Native Americans. I like the trophy, and sad to see it go. Saying that, the Land of Lincoln Trophy actually looks kind of cool; it is by far the best trophy choice out of the other 3 considered (President's Trophy (named after the state's four presidents), Popcorn Bowl (named after the Illinois state snack) and the Graham-Grange Fire Bell (named after two of the greatest players at each school. Read the rest of the article about the trophies here).

Who I want to win: Northwestern

Who I think will win: Northwestern

#10 Iowa at #11 THE Ohio State University 3:30 ET ABC

This game is the unofficial Big Ten Title game. The winner of this game has the clear path to the title. Iowa is coming into game after having their perfect season ended last week by Northwestern. The biggest part of the loss for Northwestern is that Stanzi is done for the rest of the regular season. Ohio State comes in after playing very well against Penn State last week. I think with the loss of Stanzi it could make for a long day for Hawkeye fans. Wish A.C.S.S. Sr Hockey reporter (even though he doesn’t write anymore, lazy) Colin luck as he heads to Columbus wearing all of his Iowa gear. With the way he likes to trash talk, I give it 50/50 to ever see him alive again.

Real Salt Lake vs Chicago Fire 6 ET

This is the Eastern Conference finals and the winner heads to the MLS championship. Chicago lost at Columbus in the conference finals but look to win at home this year. The fire haven’t won a conference title game since 2003. Cuauhtemoc Blanco is looking to end his fire career (retiring or heading back to Mexico after the season) with a championship and has played well everytime he has played RSL. RSL is in the Western Confrence but got in the East as a wild card because they had a better record then any east team playing for the spot (I know confusing, but Canadian Football League does the same thing so not unheard of). RSL has never been to the cup final so they are looking to send Blanco home unhappy.

Who I want to win: Chicago Fire

Who I think will win: Chicago Fire

#16 Utah at #5 TCU: 7:30 ET

(Picture by Kurt SNIBBE of ESPN.com) This is why I love College Gameday. They go to the week’s biggest game, and doesn’t care if it’s on ABC/ESPN. Kirk will do the morning game and then fly off to do another game that night (I believe Norte Dame at Pitt). Utah is coming into the game as a 20 point underdog which boggles my mind (my loan bet for the weekend, wagered legally in Las Vegas). I think the game will be a lot closer then that. The story line for the game will probably primarily focus on last year’s BCS buster playing this year’s most likely BCS buster.

Who I think will win: TCU

Who I want to win: TCU

Notre Dame at #12 Pitt 8 ET ABC
Notre Dame is coming off a loss to Navy (2nd straight time in Notre Dame Stadium) and needs this game to avoid a free fall. The Offense has been good all year, but Pittsburgh’s might be the most undereated in the nation. Expect to see a lot of Pittsburgh running to keep Norte Dame’s offense off the field.

Who I want to win: Notre Dame

Who I think will win: Pitt

Sunday

NASCAR NASCAR Sprint Cup Series at Phoenix pres. by Goodyear 3:15 ET ESPN

Apparently if Jimmy Johnson finishes outside the top 10 and Mark Martin wins, Mark Martin will be the leader heading into the final race next weekend. Oh yeah, he’s doing this at 50.

Who I want to win: Mark Martin

Who I think will win: Jimmy Johnson

Philadelphia Eagles at San Diego Chargers 4:15 ET FOX

The last time the Eagles flew west, they lost to the Oakland Raiders, and it wasn’t pretty. San Diego looks to beat it’s second straight NFC East team after a comeback victory last week against the Giants. Should be a fun game to watch.

Who I want to win: Eagles

Who I think will win: Charges

San Jose Sharks at Chicago Blackhawks 7 ET

Blackhawks are currently in first in central division while San Jose is currently leading the NHL. Should be some fierce action that down the line could be a Western Conference Finals preview.

Who I want to win: Blackhawks

Who I think will win: Blackhawks

New England Patriots at Indianapolis Colts 8:20 NBC

Two of the three best teams of the decade got at it for the 7th consecutive year. Last year’s game lacked with Brady being out. Now that he is back and hitting his stride, the Patriots look to stop the Colts perfect season. Peyton Manning has been very efficient all year working with is young reciving core. I expect Bellick to try to come out with a defense that will confuse the young wide outs.

Weekend Watch (10/16/09)

We have a pretty full slate of action this weekend, in fact, we actually hit all 4 of the big 4 sports this weekend in the watch. It’s good to be in October. Also some fun scheduling this week, big college games being played early in the day, Red River at 11, SC vs UND at 2:30. I LOVE IT! Also, all the best NFL game are being played in early game. So here is what the Watch is watching this weekend.

Friday

Phillies at Dodgers Game 2: 3 CST TBS

Game 2 has already started. I did my humble (yes very humble) breakdown earlier today. Enjoy the nice weather of a baseball game, cause it will be the last time all weekend we will see it. (Baseball is predicting bad weather, so game times might be different). Pedro is throwing today for the Phillies. I don’t care how good he was or how much big game experience he has, I do not want 2009 Pedro starting for my team.

Who I want to win: Dodgers

Who I think will win: Dodgers

Angels at Yankees Game 1: 6:30 CST FOX

First pitch temperature for this game is 41, and it’s supposed to rain. Needless to say I’m glad I didn’t cough up $100+ to go to this game. Hopefully they get the game in or there will be some fun scheduling changes for the MLB to come up with. For tonight’s game, it’s tough betting against a well rested CC, no matter what the weather is like. I think Yankees will take game 1

Who I want to win: Angels

Who I think will win: Yankees

Pittsburgh @ Rutgers 7 PM CST ESPN

Big East in on display for the nation again. I do not think this game will be as exciting as last night, but still competitive. Both teams play a more traditional smash mouth football which as a former O-Lineman, you know I love seeing. Plus Chicagoans love Wanny.

Timberwolves @ Bulls Preseason 7 PM CST

I know basketball junkies like Fodor will probably tune into some action. Game features two of last years top Rookies in Rose and Love. Sounds more like a valentine then a basketball game.

Who I want to win: Bulls

Who I think will win: It’s preseason, so I have no idea, Bulls?

Midnight Madness 8 CST ESPNU

It’s official, teams can practice again. ESPN is going to be at UNC, Duke, and Kentucky among other places. These practices involve little practices, but it is a good way to become familiar with some of the better players on better teams.

Who I want to win: Shirts

Who I think will win: Skins

Saturday

College Game Day 9 CST

They are live from the Cotton Bowl. Kirk is going to have to duck out early and run up to the booth so some more camera time for Desmond. I think they decided to go here to stay warmer.

Who I want Corso to pick: Texas

Who I think Corso will pick: Texas

Red River Rivalry 11 CST ABC

Both of these teams have had this game circled on the calendar since last year. Oklahoma needs to make up for last years loss. Texas is still feeling jobbed after being kept out of a national title game by a team with the same record that they beat. Even though OU has 2 losses, this pre-season game of the year should still be a fun game to watch. Also, you want to know why I wish I went to a big football school. Both schools get Thursday and Friday off this week.

Who I want to win: Texas

Who I think will win: Texas

Iowa @ Wisconsin 11 CST ESPN

The Heartland Trophy will be up for grabs in the game, and come on, who doesn’t love BACON! This is a big game for both teams. Iowa still isn’t getting national respect (mainly cause of UNI and Arkansas St) and are actually underdogs going into Camp Randle. Wisconsin outplayed Ohio State last week but gave up two pick 6s for touchdowns which turned the game into a blow out. This should be a good Big Ten Game.

Who I want to win: Iowa

Who I think will win: Iowa

Southern Cal at Notre Dame 2:30 CST NBC

Another game I discussed earlier today. Notre Dame comes in ranked and lots of people think this is the year they can finally topple the SC hurdle. SC has had some early struggles but still boast the best O-line in the nation. If the O-line gives Barkley enough time, he will shred Notre Dame’s defense and this game could quickly become a shootout. If Clausen wants any hope of winning the Heisman, he better beat Southern Cal.

Who I want to win: Notre Dame

Who I think will win: Southern Cal

VA Tech at Georgia Tech and Alabama at South Carolina (The Real USC) ABC/ESPN 7CST

The tech bowl! No not Temco Bowl (still the greatest game ever!) Va Tech vs Ga Tech in what should be the best game in the ACC this week. I heard a quote I liked about playing GT, it’s like a season on themselves, because no one else plays anything like GT. Well lets see how the VT D responds.

Who I want to win: Georgia Tech

Who I think will win: Va Tech

People are calling this a potential upset for Alabama. I like South Carolina but I don’t see it, Bama’s defense is too good and I don’t think South Carolina will be able to do much. It is the battle of my two favorite SEC teams so I’ll be watching.

Who I want to win: Alabama

Who I think will win: Alabama

Stars at Blackhawks 7:30 CST WGN

Good news for our friends outside of Chicagoland, the Hawks are on WGN so you will be able to watch them. The Hawks have been playing well, even coming back from 5 down. They are playing exciting hockey (leading league in shots on net) and are winning. There might be some goaltender controversy, but I am not too worried.

Who I want to win: Blackhawks

Who I think will win: Blackhawks

Sunday

Ravens at Vikings 12 CST CBS

As fellow ACSS writer Ryan pointed out earlier today, Vikings haven’t beaten anybody yet. If they beat the Ravens, I will be a believer. The Ravens are good at stopping the run and get good pressure on the QB. This should really show how good Farve is. The Ravens defense is fast and will enjoy the fast track, but they can play smash mouth with the best of them. The Vikings D-line is going to try to frustrate the Ravens offense. If Flacco has time, I think he will lead the Ravens to victory.

Who I think will win: Ravens

Who I want to win: Ravens

Giants at Saints 12 CST FOX

I am excited for this game. I want to see what the Giants D (mainly the front 4) do to the New Orleans Saints O. Sean Payton (FROM!? NAPERVILLE CENTRAL HIGH SCHOOL!) is great offensive coach and is coming off a bye with enough time to prepare for what the Giants are going to throw at them. The Giants had a quasi bye last week (sorry Oakland) and Eli has subtly become the best road QB in the league. I feel, as Ryan said earlier, until NY loses, they are the best team in the league.

Who I think will win: Giants

Who I want to win: Giants

Phillies at Dodgers Game 3: 7 CST TBS

Series shifts back to Philly for the next three days. If the Phillies win all at home, they will win the series, Dodgers need at least 1.

Who I want to win: Dodgers

Who I think will win: Phillies

Bears at Falcons 7:15 CST NBC

Bears return to the Dome where they suffered a painful loss. Last time they played on Sunday Night Football, Jay Cutler threw 4 ints, and the Bears still almost won. The Falcons offense is one of the best in the league, there D leaves something to be desired. The winner of this game becomes the undisputed 4th best team in the NFC. Should be a good one

Weekend Watch

Weekend Watch

No wagers this week, Apparently there is something called baseball going on, I don’t plan on watching any of it until the playoffs start. On to the WATCH!

Friday

10:30 AM 2016 Olympic Selection Show

Is this as exciting as CBS’ March Madness selection Sunday? I’d say it close, but after the first round Chicago was done. I’m not going to lie, I never never saw that one coming. Congrats to Rio and South America. (Quick side note, I heard they are already 17 Billion in the hole, anybody else hear this, I’m not being bitter or negative, but I just hope USA does not have to save Rio like it did Athens)

11:00 AM Panthers vs Blackhawks from Finland

Blackhawks opening up overseas is really cool, sadly the Hawks lost in a shootout, but at elast we get 1 point. The Toews jersey didn’t help, oh well we got them again tomorrow.

Pitt at Louisville 7 PM ESPN

I wish this game would have been played a few years ago. Wanny has had his ups and downs with Pitt, but they are right in the middle of the Big East again. Louisville hasn’t been the same since Petrino left.

Who I want to win: Louisville

Who I think will win: Pitt

Saturday

9 AM ESPN College GameDay

They are at Boston College this week to help in their celebration of a player with cancer. I understand the importance of this, and I know that Cal and Miami lost last week, but I’m still surprised they aren’t at Berkley for Cal Southern Cal, or Miami for THE U vs Oklahoma.

11 AM Blackhawks vs Panthers from Finland

The Hawks scored first, and the Panthers answered. The Hawks scored again, and the Panthers answered. One more time the Hawks scored again, and the Panthers answered. The Hawks need to get the lead and maintain the lead. They shouldn’t have lost on Friday and hopefully they will learn from their mistakes.

Who I want to win: Blackhawks

Who I think will win: Blackhawks

11 AM Michigan at Michigan State Big Ten Network

It’s a rivalry game, MSU needs this win to get there season back on track, Michigan needs to keep winning to reclaim some national respect after last season

Who I want to win: Go Blue!

Who I think will win: Go Blue!

7 PM Oklahoma at Miami & Southern Cal at California

These games make me wish IU would not be playing a night so I could watch them. These game are huge for each team and there season aspirations. All 4 still have an outside shot at the national title, a loss this week would effectively ruin that for them. Miami could start off 3-1 in one of the toughest schedules in the country would be impressive. Just as impressive would be if Oklahoma goes 3-1 without their Heisman winning QB. Cal and Southern Cal have not only national championship thoughts, but they Pac-10 championship. Each already has a loss in the Pac-10 and getting the second one could end the hopes for either.

Who I want to win: The U!

Who I think will win: Oklahoma

Who I want to win: Cal

Who I think will win: Southern Cal

7 PM THE Ohio State University vs Indiana

IU is coming off a tough road loss to face the reigning Big Ten champs in a night game in Bloomington. I wish I was down there for the game cause I bet it’s going to be a fun atmosphere all day. Even with Ohio State’s captain DE being suspended, I don’t know how well IU can hang with them. I hope they do, but OSU just has better players. The good new is, the stadium will be very red so get your camera’s ready.

Who I want to win: IU

Who I think will win: The Ohio State University

Sunday

Lions @ Bears 12:00

This is the Bears last home game for awhile. The Lions are finally over the hump with a win. I am very happy that this since as a Bears fan. I think the Bears should take care of business this weekend and won’t need two missed field goals to do it.

Who I want to win: Bears

Who I think will win: Bears

Jets vs New Orleans 3:15

I think this is the best game on Sunday. The Blitz York Jets vs TD Orleans Saints. Rex Ryan’s D vs Sean Payton’s O (both with Chicago ties). I personally don’t think the J-E-T-S are for real, I think their D is good, but the O hasn’t faced anybody yet, lucky for them the Saints D isn’t anybody special. This game will come down to how well Brees can read the Blitz and reacts to them. The blitz’s confused Brady and his O-line, how will New Orleans react.

Who I want to win: Saints

Who I think will win: Saints

Baltimore @ New England

I think this will show that Baltimore is the team to beat in the AFC. There defense is still solid and the offense is becoming a force. You can’t count New England out, but they are banged up (Welker, Mayo, Thomas, Brady (yes he’s healthy but he’s still not looking right)) with Lord Bill on the sideline, but this could give either team better direction.

Weekend Watch/Wagers 09/25/09

Welcome back to the watch. The watch will actually not be watching much of the games on Saturday because I, with fellow A.C.S.S. writers Fodor, Shark, and Derek (though with a different group) will be descending on Ann Arbor to cheer on our beloved Hoosiers in the Big House against the Wolverines! I feel a repeat of Ap State. Ok, maybe I agree with my Dad who took Michigan and gave the 21 points to IU. His wager, just like mine for this weekend, were legally bought in Las Vegas. I’ve had fight songs stuck in my head all day so I think I’m sufficiently pumped. On to the Watch!

Friday 09/25/09

Missouri at Nevada

I think Mizzou is going to roll, but I love seeing power conferences go to lesser conferences for away games. It shows the school has no fear and money isn’t the main goal of everything.

Who I think is going to Win: Mizzou
Who I want to win: Mizzou

Australian Rules Football! 10:30 ESPN Classic

I know, who watches it, just turn it on and enjoy, it’s like rugby, football, basketball, rolled into 1 and jumping on guys backs is legal and encouraged. Just watch it, for me.

Who I want to Win: St Kilda
Who I think will Win: Geelong

Saturday 09/26/09

Gameday 10 AM ET ESPN, State College, PA
Corso and Co descend on Happy Valley to hype up the Iowa vs Penn St game where PSU looks to avenge the loss from last years

Who do I think Corso will pick: Penn St.

Who do I want Corso to pick: Sorry Colin and Anne, but PSU needs this more then Iowa, so PSU.

10 AM – 4 PM Ann Arbor

The watch will be taking the crap from the maize and blue as he proudly rocks his Ray Fisher jersey (which was formerly a Benjarvis GreenEllis jersey). We plan to arrive at the Big House at 10, bust out Tim’s grill where we will be making Eggs, Bacon, Sausage breakfast sandwiches. We got a regulation size pong table where some drinking games will take place. Then we will descend on the Big House and watch IU destroy (maybe not) Michigan.

Who I want to win: HOOSIERS!
Who I think will win: Go Blue!

Iowa at Penn State 7 ET ABC

A big ten show down that could pave the way to a Big Ten Title for either team. Iowa has won 6 of the last 7, including their last few visits to happy value. Joe Pa says there is no such thing as revenge, Iowa just plain beat them last year. I still think Penn State’s players are thinking about it, and are going to roll.

Who I want to win: Again sorry Colin and Anne, But PSU needs this more PSU
Who I think will win: WE ARE…..PENN STATE

Notre Dame vs Purdue ESPN 7 ET

Notre Dame has to win this game (and preferrably big) if they want to continue to claim that they are back. Purdue needs to bounce back from an embarrassing home loss to Northern Illinois. Because of these circumstances, and the fact both teams love passing, this should be a good game to watch.

Who I want to win: Notre Dame
Who I think will win: Notre Dame

Texas Tech vs Houston ESPN2 8:15 ET

Will Houston prove to be legit? I sure hope so, this should be a high scoring shootout and should be a pleasure to watch.

Who I want to win: Houston
Who I think will win: Houston

Wager Washington State at Southern Cal

Wazzu is getting 45 points. That’s a lot of points and So Cal has not looked that good on offense. Granted So Cal is coming off the loss and could be pissed and take it out on Wazzu. I sure hope not, hey Wazzu only lost to Stanford by 26. Wait why am I doing this again? Anyways be sure to look for my friend Kelly in the stands as I pray for a close game.

Sunday 09/27/09

Wager: Green Bay vs St Louis 1 PM ET

St Louis has 1 touchdown this season, so I took the Packers and gave the 6.5. I’m feeling good cause the Rams are bad, but I hope they win and I lose money. We will see if it happens

Wager: New Orelans vs Buffalo 4:05

I took over 52 points in this game. New Orleans is averaging 46.5 points a game, they could basically do this by themselves. Buffalo actually has a pretty good offense and could put some points of their own. It’s in Buffalo, but the weather should be nice so points should be a coming.

BEARS at Seattle 4:05

The Bears travel to the great northwest to take on Hasselbackless Seahawks team. I think the Bears should take care of business easily and prove to TJ that he made the wrong choice of team this off season.

Who I want to win: Bears
Who I think will win: Bears

Wager Colts at Cards

My last wager of the weekend I took the Colts +2.5 over the Cards. Cards had a great week with Warner setting an NFL record for completion percentage, however, Manning under the bright lights (of the regularly season) plays well and I think he leads his team to a victory. I am afraid the Colts defense will come up flat after being on the field for 45+ minutes last game.

Weekend Watch/Wagers (09/11/09)

The glorious return of a forgotten franchise! I threw down $40 on 4 games this weekend (legally in Vegas), so I will be watching those in addition to the normal watch stuff. My first wager was Ga Tech -5 over Clemson. I looked good in the first before Ga Tech decided they had already won, and stopped playing and then milking the clock for a game winning FG (WHERE’S THE TD TO COVER!).

Anyways on to the Watch

Saturday

College GameDay 9 AM ET

Come on you know you watch it too. Live from Columbus Ohio.

Early Games

I put $10 on Iowa State +6.5 over Iowa (Sorry Anne and Colin). So I will be watching that one in addition to IU and Western Michigan

Who I want to Win: Iowa by 3.

Who I think will Win: Iowa

Who I want to Win: IU

Who I think will Win: Western Michigan

Afternoon Games

Michigan at Notre Dame. This should be a fairly exciting game based on the way the two teams played last week. We will see though. The story of the game will be the QBs. Can Clausen put up his good numbers against a team not from the WAC? Will the shoelace wonder (yes the QB Robinson who doesn’t tie his shoes) and Forcier continue to excel after there 1st game success? The over/under was 48.5 and I put $10 on the over so as you can tell I’m expecting them all to perform.

Who I want to win: I can’t decide but since I’ll be in the state of Michigan, Michigan

Who I think will win: I thin Notre Dame will show they are for real in this game.

Night Game

Southern Cal (South Carolina is the REAL USC) vs THE Ohio State University. The Showdown in the Shoe or whatever you want to call it this year. This is as big as a must win for Ohio State and the Big Ten if they want to be viewed as an elite conference this year. Southern Cal starts a true frosh QB in his first road game ever. They also are returning just 3 starters on defense from last year so Southern Cal might be having a more down year compared to recent Southern Cal team. Saying all that, Ohio State has lost a ton of talent as well. They do return Pryor who was Big Ten Pre-season player of the year. The key to the game will be how Ohio State’s O-Line plays. They have struggled against very athletic defenses, and guess what Southern Cal has. If they can manhandle them and get into a steady rushing rhythm they can win. If they get into too many 3rd and long, the Southern Cal defense will have a field day with the OSU O-line. 105,000 going nuts in the shoe, should be a good game.

Who I want to win: Ohio State

Who I think will win: Southern Cal

Random Tangent. Yes I am giving Southern Cal crap about not being the real USC, but Southern Cal looks fine in print. Nothing throws me off more then seeing Louisana State or hearing that name, I’m always like who the F*&% is Louisiana State, and then it clicks, LSU. Doesn’t phase me with BYU or Southern Cal or any other initial school, but there’s something about LSU

Sunday

Early Games

Falcons vs Dolphins

The overachievers last year! I think this will be a very entertaining game even though neither team will repeat what they did last year

Who I want to win: Dolphins

Who I think will win: Dolphins

Sunday Night Football

Bears vs Packers. Bears getting 3.5 you bet I put money on that. This game could go a long way in determining momentum for the NFC North. Either team starts out the season with a blowout; they can carry that with them the rest of the season. I got Bears winning by the same margin as last year in Indy.

Who I want to win: Bears

Who I think will win: Bears.

Rants and Ramblings: Stories that won't go away, NHL Dream Matchups, White Sox and The LeBrons

I know I don’t have a Nielson’s rating box, but whenever a story comes on ESPN of Sportscenter that I don’t enjoy; I turn the channel for the slim chance big brother is watching what I’m watching.

The all time biggest channel changing events for me are Roger Clemens coming back to the Yankees, Roger Clemens steroids scandal, T.O.’s first training camp with Parcells and the Cowboys, and Brett Favre never ending retirement talk.

Well look what’s back in the news, Roger Friggin Clemons and Brett “haven’t you ruined my life enough, and I swear I saw you crying on the sideline of Soldier Field 3 years ago” Favre.

Haven’t these stories been done? My favorite part of each of these stories is how the talking heads and columnist start off their opinion with something along the lines of “I am so tired of this story but…” then go on and discuss the story for 10-20 minutes of a couple hundred minutes. IF YOU ARE SO TIRED OF IT THEN STOP TALKING ABOUT IT!

NHL Dream Matchups

The NHL has had a pretty excellent post season for a rating stand point. Yes I know not everyone gets VS (I do!) but I don’t think this year’s ratings should be judged too harsh. This year for the NHL is all about bringing fans back. This is the season that the NHL really reclaims its status as one of the big four team sports in America.

The NHL has been promoting their young stars (Alexander the Great, Sid the Kid, and the lumped together Kane and Toews) as reason for people to watch. What have these young stars done in the second round? AO, Hat Trick, Sid, Hat Trick, Kane, Hat Trick, Toews, 2 Goals. I don’t know if the NHL can build its fan base up based on it’s Stars like the NBA has, but that’s a good way to start. Also 3 of the 4 of these guys are guaranteed to at least make the conference semi-finals.

Besides players, series can draw big ratings. Of the 4 conference semi-finals 3 of them are going to a game 7. Is there anything more compelling then a Game 7? The teams are sick of each other at this point and it’s a winner take all. 1 great play or mistake could end the series. I honestly hope one of these goes into OT.

Another way to get ratings; Big Markets and the Original Six in the playoffs.

Original Six:
Detroit: In the Playoffs. Going to Game 7 in Conference Semi Finals
Chicago: In the Playoffs. Going to Conference Finals
Boston: In the Playoffs. Going to Game 7 in Conference Semi Finals
New York Rangers: In the Playoffs
Montreal: In the Playoffs
Toronto: Missed the Playoffs

Big Markets

New York: Rangers and Islanders in the Playoffs
LA: Ducks In the Playoffs. Going to Game 7 in Conference Semi Finals
Chicago: In the Playoffs. Going to Conference Finals
Philadelphia: In the Playoffs
Washington: In the Playoffs
Boston: In the Playoffs. Going to Game 7 in Conference Semi Finals
Vancouver: In the Playoffs, Lost in Conference Semi Finals

Lastly, Matchups get ratings.

LOOK at the matchups that have occurred.

Battle for California: Ducks vs Sharks
Battle for Penn: Penguins vs Flyers
Original Six: Boston vs Montreal.
Sid the Kid vs Alexander the Great.

Fantastic match ups everywhere. And we can’t forget about the potential of Detroit vs Chicago in the Western Finals.

I have loved this years NHL playoffs. Obviously the Blackhawks playing well keeps my interest longer, but I can honestly tell you, of the 12 playoffs series that have occurred to date, I have watched at least 1 game in 10 of them.

11:05 Start for the White Sox

That’s early. And to make matters worse, Mark B vs Cliff Lee is the pitching matchup. Honestly the game is going to be 90 minutes long. If I was still in college, or a townie like Fodor, I wouldn’t wake up until after this game was over. I do enjoy the afternoon games from a work perspective; it gives me something to continually check back on while working.

$10 on the Cavs!

Mandalay Bay, I’m coming to collect. The LeBrons 8-0 and double digit margin of victory, ridiculous. Regardless who they play, their playoffs haven’t started yet, while everyone else has. [Ed. note– Stop lookin' at my lemonade! I love grandpa LeBron]

Weekend Watch 05/01/09

I know it’s a day early, but I am off tomorrow so my weekend starts in one hour.

Thursday

Celtic at Bulls 7 ET TNT (Celtics Lead Series 3-2)

Elimination game tonight for what many people have called the best first round match-up since they have made it a 7 game series. To this point we have had 3 OT games, a game won on the last shot of regulation, and A Boston blowout. I know I have enjoyed so far and I hope this game doesn’t disappoint. So should the Bulls go after Rondo right away? Should they do what Ryan suggested and put Aaron Grey to throw a haymaker at him? I know I want to see him on his butt every time he comes down the lane.

Who I want to win: Bulls
Who I think will win: Bulls

Blackhawks at Canucks 9 ET VS (Series tied 0-0)

Round 2 begins for the NHL tonight and this should be a fantastic series. The trash talking has already been thrown around and if you don’t believe this won’t be a rough series you’ll have to look at the penalty minutes from the last time they played. How many? 80!!!!!! Luongo is one of the, if not the best goaltender in the game. He has been lights out from shots that are 15 feet or out so far in the playoffs, so the Hawks are going to need to get in close for some good shots. Vancouver has had 9 days off so they might be a little rusty. If Chicago wants to win this series they have to split the first two games.

Who I want to win: Blackhawks
Who I think will in: Canucks

Speaking of the Blackhawks. (http://sports.espn.go.com/nhl/playoffs/2009/news?columnist=johnson_george&id=4114044) Fun read sent to me by Colin who also has a man crush on Toews.

Friday

White Sox at Texas

Normally I wouldn’t include random baseball games that seem insignificant. But this one is important. Why do you ask? Because this is Scotty Pods' (pictured) first game back to the White Sox. I know he wasn’t with the team long, but he was by far my favorite players on the Sox at the time and will always be up there with my all time favorites like Thomas, Ventura, Cora, Guillien, Paulee, and Buehrle (and Jackson, Jordan and Griffey but I love those guys for reason besides what they did in the White Sox uniform). Jamie is exicited he is back on the team for different reasons. I will continue to keep an eye out for his model wife.

Who I want to win: White Sox
Who I think will win: White Sox

Saturday

NBA Playoffs Game 7: TBD TNT

There are 3 potential game 7s that could be played throughout this day. I hope the Bulls and Celtics face off. That would mean they held off elimination and won in Chicago. Can they win in Boston, it’ll be hard but I think they can, and it’s 1 game, anything can happen. The other two are Philadelphia at Orlando and Houston at Portland. Dwight Howard has been suspended for Game 6 and it’s in Philly so I am thinking that one is going to go to 7. I have a feeling Houston will finish off Portland in Game 6.

Sox, Bulls, Hawks, Masters, Some Cubs Hate and Random Notes

So as you can tell from the title that this article will be all over the place. I have thoughts on each, but not enough thoughts to warrant an entire piece. So if you want to skip around, feel free.

White Sox: (12:05 first Pitch)

First off, I was glad to see the Sox win their first series of the season. Especially in the way they did it. As Ozzie always says, just win 2 of 3 and we’ll be pretty good.

I was a little worried about Colon, especially after hearing concerns about his arm stamina, but he pitched phenomenal. I still want to see more before I’m a full believer. I also and still concerned about his injuries. Then to have his performance followed up but a solid Mark Buehrle outing after a shaky first time out was good to hear. Maybe that will put to rest some of the rumblings about Buehrle’s off season work out regime. As I said earlier I think our pitching can keeps us afloat until our batters figure out how to hit again. Even if they never do, I think our pitching rotation can keeps us competitive throughout the year.

Secondly, today starts an important series for me. I know some of you don’t find my wagers interesting (not to name names cough Posey cough cough) but too bad. I wagered lunch with a manager in my department, who is from Detroit, that the Sox will win more head to head games then the Tigers.

This game vs Detroit starts an 11 Game road trip. That does not sound fun this early, but hopefully the weather will be better when they get back.

Lastly, Glad to Joe Crede back at Sox Park. He did exactly what Frank Thomas did on his first trip back, Home Run in first at bat off Jose Contreas; that I was not that glad to see.

Masters:

Fantastic Masters yesterday. We finally got to see a Sunday pairing of Tiger and Lefty. Too bad it wasn’t in the final group. But both of them play fantastic most of they day which kept me thinking, these guys could actually get all the way back. They came really close until the limped across the finish line.

A playoff is always high drama. I was cheering for each player, and feel bad for Perry. Bogie on 71 and bogie on 72 to come back to the field and tie for the Masters. But that’s pressure for you.

Bulls: (6:30 CSN)

The rivalry….renewed. Bulls Pistons TONIGHT! I have heard some people call this the biggest game for the Bulls this decade. I find that a little hard to believe seeing how we made the playoffs a few times, even advancing to the conference semi’s once.

Bulls have two games left in their season and are essentially tied (standings) with the 76ers for the 6th seed. (I believe the 76ers have the tie breaker). The Sixers end with Celtics and Cavs. So they could easily lose both those games and open a door for the Bulls.

The Bulls also have a 1 game lead over the Pistons for the 7th playoff spot. Tonight vs Pistons if the Bulls win they will guarantee at least the 7th seed. I don’t really think it matters if the Bulls get 6-8. I don’t see them winning any series. I think they might be able to get a game or two from the Magic or Celtics. Lastly, I hope they end the season with a .500 recorded or better. They end the season with a home game against Toronto.

Hawks:

Congrats to the Hawks from clinching the 4th seed. If you haven’t heard, Game 1 has been announced for Thursday at 7:30 (CST). (Rest of the schedule can be seen here) Hawks went 4-0 vs Calgary and Calgary has been sliding for awhile, so I am happy with this matchup. I hope they make it to game 5 so I can see them, but you would not hear me complaining about a sweep.

Cubs: (Today is looking like Rain Delayed)

Glad to see that ESPN is already on the CUBS'…well let’s just say the national media is interested in the Cubs already. Cubs Brewers on Sunday night baseball followed by Cubs Cardinals on Sunday night baseball followed by two Fox Saturday games of the week. Not to be Cub hating (ok maybe a little) but seriously, there are 29 other teams out there. Yes, I know us Sox fans have an inferiority complex. I know they are a solid team, they draw in rating and should cruise into another easy NL Central crown (I still say watch out for the Cards) but lets see some other teams on TV please. This almost makes me long for more Yankees Red Sox talk; almost.

Random Notes

Coach K is doing a book signing at Boarders on State Street in Chicago today at 12:30 if that interests you.

espnchicago.com launched today so check that out.

Speaking of ESPN, Lent is over and I can watch again. I didn’t really mind missing most of the shows I used to watch (Mike and Mike, Sportscenter, PTI, etc.) It was the games that I missed. There were a whole bunch of conference tourney games I couldn’t see (including ‘Cuse vs UConn) as well as some good NIT Matchups I wanted to watch.

For people who are tired of all the Sox love, we don’t really care, but tomorrow we have a guest writer writing a piece about the Cubs, so check back tomorrow for that.

Any thoughts on my rants and ramblings? Let me know

Weekend Watch 04/10/09

I was really tempted to have the following for the Weekend Watch:

Friday
Saturday
Sunday

Masters, ESPN and CBS.

But I thought better of it.

On a quick side note, check out this shootout goal. Thanks to Tim for the link.

ON TO THE WATCH!

Friday

Minnesota Twins @ Chicago White Sox: 7:11 (Helping out the sponsor) Comcast Sports Net

It’ll be good to see the Sox old nemesis’ return to the South Side for the first time since this put them in the playoffs last fall. Hopefully the Sox can get their first series win of the year. I am also interested to see how Jose Contreras will pitch in the number 4 spot. I read a good joke in the Chicago Tribune’s Redeye 5 on 5 today. When asked, “How will ex-Sox player and current Twin Joe Crede be treated at [Comisky] tonight?” Phillip Thompson responded, “He’ll get a pat on the back, which for him could be fatal.”

Who I want to win: Chicago White Sox
Who I think will win: Chicago White Sox

Masters: All Day ESPN

Ahh the masters. “A tradition unlike any other”. The Masters says one thing to me, relaxing and enjoying the nice spring weather. I know the weather doesn’t always cooperate, but relaxing none the less. [The Masters says one thing to me, too: Naptime - mf]

Who I want to win: Greg Norman! Or I guess John Daly (what’s he’s still suspended; he’s just selling his stuff?)
Who I think will win: Fyurk had a good opening round. I’ll go with him.

Saturday

College Football Spring Practice: ESPN

For you college football junkies (Me) ESPN will be broadcasting some of the country’s biggest programs spring practices. Ok so maybe just Fodor and me will be watching this.

Who I want to win: Lights
Who I think will win: Darks

Blackhawks at Red Wings 3 EST WGN

Red Wings and Blackhawks have a home and home to end the season (Also play Sunday 2EST NBCHD). Hawks need 1 more point to lock up the 4 seed. The Redwings have a slim chance of having the number 1 seed in the West, but Sharks could wrap up the president’s cup (Team with most points) tonight. So either game 2 will be very meaningful or not very meaningful

Who I want to win: Blackhawks and Blackhawks
Who I think will win: Redwings and Blackhawks

Bobcats vs Bulls 8:30 EST WGN

The Bulls have been one of the hottest teams of the second half of the season. They have a slim chance of making the 6 seed but are more likely looking to fall into the 7 slot. This could create a matchup against a Garnettless Celtics which might allow the Bulls to steal a game or two.

Who I want to win: Bulls
Who I think will win: Bulls

Sunday

Masters CBS

Come on, it’s Easter Sunday. What else do you do after eating and finding your Easter eggs? The only thing that might draw my attention away from the Masters would be Boston vs Cleveland, but Cleveland is 4 games up right now. So All Day Masters for Steve.

Who I want to win: Greg Norman
Who I think will win: Tiger, but only if he has the lead going into the final round.

HAPPY EASTER!

Weekend Watch 03/27/09

Alright some quick thoughts on the tourney last night before the weekend watch. (AP Photo)

Purdue vs UConn

I thought this game was going to be better then it was. The two things I really noticed about the game;

Purdue's shooting was off all night. I commented a few days ago that Purdue was capable of winning, but the way they were shooting last night, I knew that wasn’t going to happen.

UConn’s size was a bigger factor than Purdue’s speed. Purdue did play pretty solid defense all night, but UConn’s size was throwing off their shots the entire night. I thought Purdue did play well all in all, but UConn’s size and PU's lack of shooting is why they couldn’t win. UConn has still been the best looking team in the tournament thus far.

I was very upset with CBS last night. I realize that they think the entire country loves Duke, but come on, the Memphis vs Missouri game was the game I was looking forward to more then any of the tournament. Illinois borders Missouri so I see no reason we should not have gotten this game. Luckily I had my computer so I just watched it on there.

The game itself was fantastic, with the fast paced action that I had anticipated. The “fastest 40 minutes in basketball” worked well most the night until they took their foot off the gas a little and let Memphis back in the game. I was glad to see the fight in Memphis and not giving up even though Mizzou was beating them. This game was fantastic.

Random thought about Glendale. I know the early game only kicked off about 30 minutes before the Boston early game, but why wasn’t this reversed. It was 5 o’clock local time on a work night. Compared to 7 o’clock in Boston. The extra half hour would have given people more time to get their and enjoy the game. I noticed the stadium did fill up a lot more later.

ON TO BOSTON!

Man did Pitt look bad. If they don’t come out and go on that run in the 2nd half there is no way they win that game. They worry the heck out of me now. They can look as solid as any team out there but they seem to play down to their competition.

Nova continues to look like the best team in the region. They look so good, in fact, it almost makes you forget they were losing for a long stretch in their opening round game against American. Pitt vs Nova should be a good matchup. I think Blair should have a good game against the Nova front court.

WEEKEND WATCH

NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament: 7 EST CBS

Lots of good games tonight! The one that I am circling is Michigan St vs Kansas. Izzo vs Self. Old vs Young. Kansas has been playing fantastic all year even though they lost a lot of talent. They have played better as the year went on and they gained more experience. I think MSU’s experience will carry them through this game.

Who I want to win: Michigan State (for big ten love)
Who I think will win: Michigan State

Here’s what else is on the schedule.

Syracuse vs Okalahoma. I am really excited to see the 2-3 vs Blake Griffin.

Who I want to win: Oklahoma
Who I think will win: Syracuse

Gonzaga vs North Carolina: I have heard this is the best defensive team Few has ever had at Gonazaga. Can they stop T? How healthy is Lawson?

Who I want to win: Gonzaga (Take that Fodor)
Who I think will win: North Carolina

Louisville vs Arizona: The number 1 over seed vs the last team in. I think this game will be close.

Who I want to win: Louisville
Who I think will win: Louisville

New Jersey Devils at Chicago Blackhawks: 8:30 EST CSN

The last time these two faced, Martin Brodeur set the record for the most wins by a goaltender. The Blackhawks are limping down the stretch and need every point they can get to stay in front of Vancouver. They have been playing better since Sharp, Havlat and Khabibulin have been back. Hopefully they can keep playing better. Playing at home should help.

Who I want to win: Blackhawks
Who I think will win: Devils

SATURDAY

NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament: 4:30 – 9 EST CBS

The regional will be upon us with a ticket to the final four on the line.

UConn vs Missouri: Missouri has done nothing but win this march, but they haven’t seen a team with the size of UConn. As I said earlier in the article I think that UConn has played better then every team in the tournament. Will (screw it I’m using the cooler term) 40 minutes of hell allow Missouri to top UConn. I don’t know, but me and my bracket sure hope so.

Who I want to win: Mizzou
Who I think will win: Connecticut

Indiana Pacers at Chicago Bulls: 8 EST CSN

The Bulls just passed the Pistons for the 7th seed in the east. I don’t think it will matter if the Bulls play the Cavs or the Celtics they will probably lose. The Bulls looked pretty bad the last time these two played and the Pacers didn’t even have their best player in Danny Granger. This time they will be at home.

Who I want to win: Bulls
Who I think will win: Bulls

World Cup Qualifier: El Salvador vs USA 9 EST ESPN2

Yes soccer. I know not that exciting for most Americans, but I enjoy soccer, especially when nations compete. This most likely won’t be much of a game as the US has outscored El Salvador 16-0 in the teams last six meetings.

Who I want to win: USA
Who I think will win: USA

Sunday

Goody’s Fast Pain Relief 500 1:30 EST FOX

NASCAR reappearing on the Weekend Watch! This race is at Martinsville. In case you didn’t know Martinsville is .5 mile race track. That means lots of bumping and pushing and crashed. I always enjoy the short track races for many reasons. Even if you aren’t a NASCAR fan, I think you will enjoy this race. You should watch it.

Who I want to win: Terry Labonte
Who I think will win: Jeff Gordon

NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament: 3-7 EST CBS

I will Update and give a full preview once the field is set.

Bull at Raptors: 3:30 EST WGN

Derrick Rose and Company head north of the border to play Chris Bosh and the Raptors. Another game they need to ensure their playoff spot.

Who I want to win: Bulls

Who I think will win: Raptors

Vancouver at Chicago 7 EST CSN

This is more then likely going to be the first round matchup in the playoffs. If either team could get a out right win that would be huge for them getting home ice advantage in the first round. I would like to see the Hawks get at least 1 point out of this game but 2 would be ideal. Again, being at home should help

Who I want to win: Blackhawks
Who I think will win: Blackhawks

Weekend Watch 03/13/09

First of all did you see the UCONN ‘CUSE game last night? I didn’t I turned on my radio heard about it and realized, I need to check this out. Absolutely insane; Just google it or go to espn.com you can’t miss it. Fantastic! [MF - Yahoo article here]

Also I have had a bunch of people asking me, how are you enjoying March Madness without ESPN tv? Well yes I have missed some good Big East and ACC games. I have thoroughly enjoyed watching the Pac-10 tournament on CSN. Plus a lot of the big games are about to switch to CBS.

Friday

While I was searching over the NCAA schedule I came across a nice little tracker on the top of espn.com college basketball scoreboard;

53 College tournament games yesterday; now there are 38 games today!!!!!! Now I know it only shows 2 games for Saturday, that’s because the games have not been set yet.

Anyways yes I am in full blown March Madness Mode!

Minnesota vs (6) Michigan St. 12 ET ESPN

This could be a really good game or it could be a blowout. The reason I circled this game is that with Minnesota beating Northwestern yesterday (Sorry Fodor) experts feel that they should qualify for the field of 65. Getting a win over MSU would all but secure the bid. MSU has an outside chance at a #1 seed in the tournament, especially with Pitt and UConn going down early in the Big East tournament. If Michigan St can avoid their fate they could get that number 1 seed.

Who I want to win: Michigan State
Who I think will win: Michigan State

Virginia Tech vs (1) North Carolina 12 ET ESPN2

This could be another game that could be close or be a blowout. These two teams always seem to have good games when they face off. We can also see if the revolving door of number 1 ranking continues. [Lawson isn't playing, by the way.]

Who I want to win: UNC
Who I think will win: UNC

Bulls at 76ers: 8:30 ET CSN

Bulls are again virtually tied for the 8th seed. They need every win they can get and this is a possibility for them. 76ers are the 7th seed. So either team wins gains an important game up on the other. The Bulls have been more up and down then any team I have seen in the NBA. Can Vinny find something else to relax them, cause clearly, bowling didn’t work.

Who I want to win: Bulls
Who I think will win: 76ers

Baylor vs Texas 7 ET ESPN360

As I child of two Valparaiso alumni and a cousin of a current Valpo student, and a fiancé to a former Valpo resident, Valpo basketball is pretty close to my heart. Scott Drew, former Valpo coach and son of current and legendary Valpo coach Homer Drew, is current coach at Baylor and watching what he has done there to transform the school has been unbelievable. When he first took over, Baylor was unable to play out of conference games. I hope he continues to grow the program. They are coming off the upset of Kansas and maybe they can keep the Big XII run going by beating Texas. Texas has been very up and down this year so it should be a good game.

Who I want to win: Baylor
Who it think will win: Texas

Blue Jackets at Blackhawks: 8:30 ET CSN+

The Blackhawks have been on a little bit of a slide as late. Can the big shootout win from Wednesday help propel this team back to a win streak. Khabibulin is making his return appearance. He will probably be a little rusty, so let’s hope he shakes that rust off pretty quick. Columbus needs this win to help secure their spot and to gain secure their spot and to gain spots in the playoffs.

Who I want to win: Blackhawks
Who I think will win: Blackhawks

West Virginia vs (20) Syracuse: 9 ET ESPN

Both teams have been ranked number 1 in the country at some point! This will be their third meeting as they fight for a number 1 seed in the tournament! Pitt, UCONN in the Big East Tournament, NEXT!

Errr wait. Ugghh I mean West Virginia vs Syracuse. Not the dream match up I think the Big East was hoping for but it still should be an exciting game. I love watching Devin “IU called me too much, so now I play for WVU” Ebanks play. I also want to see how Syracuse plays after their 6 OT game.

Who I want to win: West Virginia
Who I think will win: West Virginia

Saturday

I went a little long winded on Friday since I do not know who is playing in these games.

C-USA Championship Game: 12:30 ET CBS

Memphis' insane conference winning streak will most likely still be going strong. I would like the theater if they lost though.

Who I want to win: To see Memphis streaks end.
Who I think will win: Memphis

Big Ten, ACC and SEC Semifinals: Approx 2:30ET-6ET CBS ESPN ESPN2

I will be flipping between all these games. I will probably watch more of Big Ten and ACC then SEC, but whatever games are most exciting is what I’ll be watching.

Big XII Championship: 6 ET ESPN
Watching 40 minutes of hell is a treat. I hope Mizzou makes it this far. As stated before you know I’ll be tuning in if Baylor makes it.

Who I want to win: Baylor
Who I think will win: Missouri

Pac-10 Championship: 6 ET CBS

I find 3 of the final four teams enjoyable to watch so it should be a good final to watch. The winner of the LA showdown (USC vs UCLA) will have “home” court advantage.

Who I want to win: Washington
Who I think will win: Washington

Big East Championship: 9 ET ESPN

The tournament started Tuesday with Depaul winning it’s first Big East game of the year. We already know two of the top teams are out. Who is going to win the one of toughest conference tournaments? Should be good

Who I want to win: West Virginia
Who I think will win: Louisville

Sunday

SEC Championship: 1 ET CBS

Will there be a team out of nowhere like UGA last year? That was a fantastic tournament with the tornado and the half empty Georgia Tech gym only allowing friends and family in. I will be happy if this year’s final is half as good as last years.

Who I want to win: Alabama or South Carolina
Who I think will win: Tennessee

ACC Championship: 1 ET ESPN

Tobacco road showdown? A surprise team coming out of nowhere? FSU basketball finally taking the next step? All these are possibilities. The ACC is very top.

Who I want to win: Boston College
Who I think will win: UNC

Big Ten Championship: 3:30 ET CBS

I do love how there is one championship game that comes so close to the selection show. I would just like to see what happens in the war room if somebody like Iowa or Indiana made the final. They have almost no time between the final buzzer and the final brackets.

Who I want to win: INDIANA!!! I know I know. Michigan State
Who I think will win: Purdue.

NCAA Selection Show: 6 ET ESPN

Cue the music!!!!!! (Dunt dunt dunt dunt da da da) This is the single greatest non-sports sporting event of the year. Who’s in, who’s out. Who’s got the number 1s. How fast can I fill out my brackets! Just the BEST TIME OF THE YEAR!!!!!!

Check out the site tomorrow for a statistical breakdown of how you pick your bracket.
