The Wednesday NBA Update
Well, it has been a busy couple of weeks down here in Bloomington, and out there in the sporting world.
I definitely can't wait for Saturday to roll around. After that, all of the kids leave B-Town, and the Mother Bears schedule gets cut down, and I will have nothing to do but watch sports and write stuff on here.
Anyway. Game Two of Boston-Orlando is now tipping off on TNT. I watched about ten seconds of Game One - long enough to see a 65-37 score and assume it was game over Celtics. Apparently, that was not correct, as the Celts pulled back into things and lost by just five. This is a crucial game for them. In the Chicago series, Boston also dropped Game One before coming back and squeaking out a Game Two win.
Bennett Salvatore is on the officiating crew. No way Boston loses this one.
Meanwhile, Houston also pulled a Game One upset out west, taking down Kobe's Lakers in LA. I could really see this series going against Bryant and Co. On the upside, they have the best two-guard in the conference and also a killer big man tandem in Lamar Odom and Pau Gasol. Those two guys are so fun to watch–I have never seen two big men on the same team be better passers. However, the Rockets have a couple of great defenders in Ron Artest and Shane "MoneyBall" Battier. If they can't slow down Kobe, nobody can.
The Lakers obviously have an edge in coaching with the Greatest of All Time, Phil Jackson, The Zen master, on the bench. But Yao is a beast down low and can match up with Gasol.
I expect this series to go seven games. Of course, if it was up to David Stern, every series would go seven. Speaking of which, Salvatore just called a foul. Hmm.
Lastly, congratulations to LeBron James for winning the MVP. There was basically no doubt that he deserved it. What a player. In all seriousness, he is by far the best since Jordan (no disrespect to The Shaqtus), and at age 24 should already be mentioned in the same class as His Airness, Wilt, Magic, Bird, etc. Once he wins his first title this year, he's gotta be a lock for one of the Top Ten players ever, right?
